American Studies and Ethnicity
Adam received his undergraduate degree at Columbia University and his master’s through the History of Consciousness Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz, under the advisement of activist and academic Angela Davis. He returned home to Los Angeles in the fall of 2007 to continue his research on the origins of jazz education, black cultural production and alternative pedagogy. Adam is also the director of experiential education for the Big Picture Company, where he designs and leads oral history travel programs for public high schools around issues of race, music, migration and human rights, working to bring civic engagement to the forefront of liberal arts curricula.
